Description

Mon. 6/25 - Fri. 6/29 from 10am-12pm: Flatlands Dance Theatre's Young Dancers Workshop.

Flatlands Dance Theatre will hold Young Dancers Workshops for youths between the ages of 5 - 14 during the week of June 25-29th. These classes will be held at LHUCA at 511 Avenue K.

This events is a collaboration between Flatlands Dance Theatre, Literacy Lubbock and LHUCA. There is a $50 fee per child that is due at the time of workshop registration.

Young Dancers workshops will be taught by professional dancers/educators from Flatlands Dance Theatre. Registered children are separated into two workshops that week:

Ages 5-7, 9:00am - 10:20am, In "Dance a Story," words come to life as children dance through verbs, adjectives and prepositions. Children will create choreography inspired by stories and poems read in class.

Ages 8-14, 10:40am - 12:00pm, in a workshop called "Say What?" those registered will use their bodies to communicate ideas and tell stories. They will create simple poetry and set movement to words, and eventually will work with other dancers to create moving comic strips.

No dance experience is necessary. Beginners and advanced students will benefit from an opportunity to create their own movement, problem solve with others, and expand dance vocabulary.

Dance attire is not required, but children should wear clothes that allows for movement in all directions, including up and down, without becoming tangled. All will dance barefoot.

Each student should bring his own bottled water. Each child will receive a Flatlands Dance Theatre t-shirt for participating.

Those interested can contact Ali Duffy in advance at ali@flatlandsdance.org.
