Sat. 3/2 from 10:00am to 4:00pm: Severe Weather Awareness Day @ The Science Spectrum. FREE event open to the public & located in the Science Spectrum main lobby and Exhibit Hall.

The Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society at Texas Tech University, along with KCBD News Channel 11, the National Weather Service, and the Science Spectrum, will be hosting Lubbock's 13th annual Severe Weather Awareness Day.

Activities will include hands-on weather experiments for kids of all ages, live weather demonstrations with tornado and lightning simulators, information on severe weather preparedness, and door prizes. Storm Chasing vehicles and weather instrumentation from Texas Tech's Severe Storm Research Team as well as emergency vehicles from area EMS and Fire Departments will be on-site and open for all to see.

Special OMNI Theater screenings of the film Tornado Alley will also be featured in celebration of the day's events. Tornado Alley follows daring large-format filmmaker Sean Casey (star of the Discovery Channel's wildly popular Storm Chasers series) and the researchers of the VORTEX2 initiative on a thrilling quest to witness the birth of a tornado from its very heart.

Forecasters from the National Weather Service (NWS) office that serves the South Plains area, whose local offices are located in the Science Spectrum building, will also be providing tornado and Severe Weather Safety information to the public.

This is a *FREE event for the general public and will be located in the Science Spectrum's main lobby and front lawn.

Tornado Alley tickets in the OMNI Theater will be discounted to just *$5.00 per person this one day only!
Showtimes for Tornado Alley on March 2nd will be 11:00am, 2:00, 4:00 & 6:00pm.
